CATHOLIC SCHOOLGIRL FORCED TO WRITE PRO-OBAMA LETTER

I'm outraged.  Kit at By the Brook's daughter, as part of a homework assignment is being FORCED to write a pro-Obama letter.   *POSITIVE LETTERS ONLY* AND send them in to a local newspaper.  THIS WOULD BE BAD ENOUGH, BUT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A "CATHOLIC" HIGH SCHOOL.

I suppose this stupid hippy nun has never heard of the FIRST AMENDMENT?  THIS SMACKS OF CUBA AND THE SOVIET UNION.  Who in the hell do these pro Nobama freaks think they are? Does this stupid nun NOT know that Obama is one of the most pro abortion politicians EVER?

This teach HAS to know that too many kids would be under pressure to write the letter, because they could get a lower mark in their grade and affect their GPA, which is all important for getting into a good college.

Of course, the idiot public will think that "oh, students really love Obama, even the "Catholic" ones."

I am OUTRAGED.  I think this teacher, and moreover the principal (if he/she knows about this and has done nothing) should be prepared for patriotic Catholics to crawl right up their backsides.  And DON'T "be nice" about it.   We've lost too much by "being nice."  These people need to be put in their place, which is CERTAINLY not in as ones to be in charge of nuturing young Catholic minds and values.

Shut the school down if it's going to do this poor of a job of passing on values.

At this point I do not know the name of the school, but I think a protest addressed to the diocese of Rochester, New York is in order.  This crap should NEVER be pulled in ANY school, much less a Catholic one.  When I find out the name of the school, I WILL write a letter. "Nice" be damned.  A fundamental attack on freedom of religion and free speech is being perpetrated  here.  Someone needs to be disciplined.  And it's not the student.

Hang tight, Karen - I'm still looking for the black-and-white newspaper contest rules. It doesn't excuse what additional verbal instructions may have been given in the classroom...I am still investigating.

I'm appalled if anything the actually *assignment* wasn't to write the newspaper letters re: the importance of the 1st Amendment, and why supposedly newspapers in a [still] free country shouldn't resemble those of the Soviet Union or Cuba. But then given the masturbatory Obamasms of the so-called 4th estate in this last election cycle is it any wonder the dinosaur press is going under? AND NOT A MOMENT TOO SOON.

Unfortunately, Karen, the 1st Amendment is not implicated here because it is a private school.

It still sucks, though.

That's the concern I had digi. The thing is, it's a CATHOLIC school, and a bishop with Cajones would not let this stand. It remains to be seen.... of course, a clever student can do a letter a la the WaPo ads we were discussing the other week.

Despite the rather nasty overtones of this discussion, as a teacher (not from the school in question) I would like to raise the possibility that a good Catholic high school student could/should write a positive letter putting forth the pro-life position.
What has happened to sharing the Gospel, instead of attacking with claws extended?

Judy, these people are about to wipe out ALL the gains of the prolife movement. It be like asking Catholic school kids to sing Happy Brithday to Hitler as a gesture of good will. Thanks but no thanks!

The bishop involved would be Matthew H. Clark.

Forget about the Cajones.

I haven't heard back since my rebuttal letter - and I think the verbal instructions given/intimated in class, not the paper's guidelines, are where she got the impression that this was to be a "positive" piece. The letter and email exchange is in the combox if you're interested.

Kit, yup, been looking at your updates. Any bets if there were similar "contests" before "the one" in previous inaugurations? I don't even want to turn on the news. I am so sick of this narcissistic "community organizer" who was hardly even in the Senate to vote. As far as I'm concerned, he's "Mobasa boy" - at least until he produces a full birth certificate.j A fraud is being foisted on us by stupid people. People who will later say "I never voted for him." I took names and note, myself of all who had Obama stickers etc. "YOU,m YOU'RE responsible for this...."

I'm sadly not surprised. They've been consistently asking us to write letters, essays even research papers on the greatness of our New Lord at my school. I voiced my concerns. Denied. Worse yet,at a local "Catholic" elementary school, students who wrote the best panegyric praising Obortion- Uh, I mean Obama, were awarded a trip to the inauguration and a chance to meet him.
Unfortunately, it seems that those who refuse to serve The One will not be tolerated. You either do it or get an 'F'.
Can you say "Re-Education Camps"?

Joe, this is terrible. I see you're 18, which means you are probably a senior. It's really bad because every grade counts for you trying to get into a good college. They're basically holding your GPA hostage if you don't kow-tow to them.

Let us know if they start having hall monitors and teacher's stooges. Please do give us an inside look at how they treat inauguration day at your school. i.e. do you have a voice recorder? If there's an assembly, record what is said, so "they" can't lie about it later.
