ANATHEMA SIT!

on those who break other people's blog links by deleting their entire blog!

Look, people. For those of you who think "wheeeeeeeeee .... I'm going to be self effacing and disappear from blogdom..........." yes, and NO.

See, there's this thing...it's called "google cache." Webbots crawl through web pages and save snapshots of stuff. Even if you think "hey the page is GONE!!!" IT. ISN'T.

BUT, to anyone who has linked to a post of yours they thought interesting for their own edification or the edification of others: YOU HAVE NOW BROKEN THE LINKS.
You might have posted some really interesting links that others may want in the future, or had a really good explanation of something.

Isn't it fun when you click on a link and it just doesn't go there? Right. That's how other people feel too. Oh, people can get to the cached pages, if they remember some key phrases or two. So please, do yourself a favor, if you want to leave blogdom for Lent or whatever ... just turn the comments off, okay? That way if and when you return to blogdom you won't end up with people ticked off that you messed up links before. Grrrr.

[Now the occasional post or comment where something got too out of hand etc. is one thing ... but even those ARE STILL THERE.]

Update:

I didn't know all that. You are soooooo smart. I did go to a blog that was completly gone for Lent except for the post saying they were taking off for Lent.

Taking done your posts is kinda like taking the Holy Water out of the fonts. (Except, of course, if your blog is not very edifying sp?)

PS I think DH's hand is better. Off to see doctor

Tara, as one who also suffers from depression I can tell you from 1st hand experience that when one is most in the dark is when one should reach out to one's brothers & sisters. It does little to alieviate the darknes but it makes it less lonely.

PS> Sort sheeting someone's bed helps too!

BTW, you're tagged for a meme.

Adrienne, hi glad to know hubby's hand is doing better.

Adrienne, it's not even especially arcane knowledge, the little blogger help stuff tells you as much. And if you ever go to a google link and it goes "nowhere" hit "cached." You might have some good luck in some page recovery.

Mac, you've gone to bed already most likely, or maybe not, you being a nightowl. I'd LOVE to have some drink with an umbrella in it right now, but I won't because if I do I'd be tempted to take more than one. And I never drink more than one when I'm out. Or in. For that matter. But don't tempt me.

Tara: Sorry about that depression. I've had that sort of thing off and on my whole life too. I try not to let it get me too down though. I agree with Michael about the reaching out part. Seriously, if you don't want to blog for a while, everybody "gets it" take a break for lent and you'll feel refreshed I'm sure. Sometimes we just have too many moving parts all at once, but next time honey, just turn the comments off. okay? As to the Anathema sit. You're taking it too deep. My fault most likely for posting it in the wee hours without suitable illustration. The the most draconian thing this particualr Anathema does is comes over and sits on you....she doesn't bite hard, but possibly might lick you to death.

In addition to short sheeting someone's bed as AA suggested, it also helps to TP someone's house.

And Tara - I'd LOVE to have your "dejunking" "problem." Girl, have I got a task for you.

Tara: IMHO, it's more important to spend time with your real family, work on conquering your depression, and continue to journey with Christ.

If the blog is taking you from that, then I think you are TOTALLY justified in scaling back or stopping altogether.

I know. I've been there. The blog scene can get very overwhelming. It's great, but it's not life. Nor, should it be.

You are in my prayers.

Everyone else: Links on the web break all the time as sites are moved or are deleted. It happens. Deal with it. On the scale of human misery, it's not even on the chart.

True, true, Cathy -- but do us a favor, if you ever decide to delete your blog, give us a fair warning, okay? ;-D

Unless you are in the witness protection program or something.

Tara, if you are still here to read this - if the Lenten respite from blogging is aggravating your depression, then go back to blogging. Sacrifice during Lent is supposed to rejuvenate our souls, not cast them into despair.
