SWEET!!! PHILLIES WIN SERIES!!!!

Phillip!!!! *OUR* Phillies won the Series!!!! Phils take the Series 4 games to 1. Final game score 4-3. [Game had been started MONDAY, and had rain delay, and rained out yesterday - finally finished last 3.5 innings tonight.] Brad Lidge, who got the save is being interviewed and the first thing he said was "Thank God, Jesus Christ, and my family."

Bust out the TastyKakes and Cheesesteaks(PROVOLONE cheese ONLY). Turn over a car. Climb to the top of the Ben Franklin Statue - light the fireworks - and let freedom ring!!!! The City of Brotherly Love has their first World Series victory since '80.

For the rest of you:

JUST WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR!!

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." - Bart Giamatti

My Favorite 80 year old priest

...turned 80 today!!!

Haven't written much about him lately, but he's been much in my prayers this last 6 months and is well on the mend and much better after having had his hip joint pop out (and not properly diagnosed as such for two weeks) earlier this year. Hopefully, he'll be driving soon again. I'm stopping by to see him today before Mass. He always whined that he was sorry his mother had let the cat out of the bag some years ago re: his birthday ... but secretly he's pleased when people remember. Click on the tag for more about Fr. Bill.

Happy 80th, Fr. Bill!

French still whining about Agincourt

...geez, La Weeze. Agincourt yet. 593 years ago. I don't think the French could overtake the Ladies Lounge at the Ritz without difficulty, if at all. Boo Hoo. Would you like Cheese with that Whine?

Sheesh, put some ice on that, Jacques!

Is this what we can expect from the Nobama thugs?

....robber carves "B" into victim's face when he sees her McCain bumper sticker. Absolutely unheard of in US elections. "Brave" scum. Try that with a Hell's Angel, 'Rat.

If these lunatics lose OR win some of these Nobama supporters are going to try and start civil unrest. These freaks need to know a lot of us support the 2nd Amendment in ways that are not merely lip service.

Update: Stupid prat woman faked this whole thing. She deserves the black eye she gave herself, and to be thrown behind bars. The Nobama freaks have enough real violence to put in the pot without hoaxes. Not to mention the voter fraud out there.

Show of hands?

How many you received an absolutely USELESS guide for the Catholic voter as to how to have an informed conscience when casting a vote?

Apparently, according to the Catholic bishops of the US, we are supposed to not only feel sorry and welcoming to the persecuted alien (i.e. one who gets threatened with death, etc. for practicing the faith which is quite one thing] but for ALL "immigrants" which in Catholic bishop speak is code for "illegal aliens."

I.E. we're supposed to have compassion for Mrs. Murphy, US retired person by: Raising her taxes to educate the illegal alien children, have her own children have a depressed wage scale, because adjusted for inflation it's still pathetic at the lower end, because illegals can live 20 to a room and not care -- never mind a living wage for those who have to compete for jobs with illegal aliens. Mrs. Murphy and her family get jacked up of housing prices because there are MILLIONS of illegals putting a strain on the system. Gee, guess what? A scarcity and the price goes up. What a concept. Econ. 101. Let's turn a blind eye to seeing decent paying blue collar wage earners trades go in the dumper. So much for a "living wage" for actual citizens. I sometimes think bishops should be REQUIRED to be married and have kids to raise and pay for housing in the real market.

But this highly questionable pimping for the socialist "border free America" is a wishy washy weasel way for liberal democrat catholics to pretend that "compassion" for illegal aliens makes up for a pro-abortion stance.

I feel like taking this voting guide for the Catholic conscience, sending it to the bishop, and telling him what he can do with it. Why did these idiots bother?

Used to be there was a non-Catholic Christian outfit that DID do a good job on these issues and regularly distributed a USEFUL voter guide as to informing the public where the candidates stood on the issues and what the propositions were that concerned issues that were of particular concern to the religious voter.

They'd simply list candidates and ask them where they stood on social issues. THAT was useful. Abortion? 2nd Amendment? and issues like "gay marriage", "embryonic stem cell research" would have certainly been mentioned by referendum number, etc.
But nah, the lily-livers have axed it from being distributed in the church parking lots. "Too controversial" might have someone sue for appearance of "endorsement." So what do we get? Wishy washy, half baked crap. Some of it highly speculative and dream cloud cuckoo land "catholic teaching." Yeah. Some of it was good and true, but it was undercut by the crap.

Phillies Take 1st Game World Series

Phillies 3 runs 8 hits 1 error
Tampa Bay 2 runs 5 hits 1 error

[Phillies strand 11 base runners - DUDES!!! Stop fooling around like that, you were giving me a heart attack.]

Hamels get the win, Lidge gets the save. [Brad's being interviewed by some pigmy at the moment. I think the reporter comes up to his belt! That or Lidge is standing on a box and the reporter in a hole.]

Fight Sign theft with Poison Ivy!

....classic quote from Freerepublic (#45):

"The kid next door has poison ivy on his hands and arms big time. So I know he’s the jerk that ripped up my McCain sign. He can’t figure out how he got it. I asked him how he got it, then told him I’d be cuttin’ my own grass from now on. I put up another sign while the kids were in school. Rubbed it with more Poison Ivy. I’ll bet the kid rips it up again! Bwaaaa!"

WWJD? Hand the kid a bottle of Calomine Lotion? "Go now, and sin no more....and grow up, punk!"

$3.09 per US Gallon...

That's what I paid for gas at the Arco by Clairmont Mesa Blvd. and the 163 this afternoon. How about you?

[It's STILL way overpriced, but beats the $4.8something I paid at the height of the summer insanity.]

Stupidsville, USA

Meanwhile, up in Harlem.

Let's hope these people are too stupid to find their way to the polling places.

How Republican Are You?

You Are 88% Republican
You are a card carrying Republican, and a pretty far right one at that!
There's no chance anyone would ever mistake you for a Democrat.

I'd have scored higher, but I have issues with "soccer moms" on the grounds that they shouldn't let their kid play such a wussy sport. People give "brush contact" with each other and they fall down like crying fairies. No wonder people can't suck it up - wusses. Girls field hockey has a lot more contact and less histronics. I also have an issue with Walmart: Stop selling cheap Chinese crap made by slave labor.

On the How democrat are you, I scored ZERO percent. No surprise.

You Are 0% Democrat
If you have anything in common with the Democrat party, it's by sheer chance.
You're a staunch conservative, and nothing is going to change that!

How stupid are US Catholics and Jews....

...if the following statement is true?

"Obama, 47, who would be the first black president, enjoys strong support among black, Hispanic, Catholic and Jewish voters while the 72-year-old McCain holds a narrower lead among male and white voters."

See article here.

Let's see, we've got one of the most proabort candidates ever....and the Jews are too stupid to know Hamas and Hezbollah will be delighted if Hussein gets in.

Karen
[Who is going to start asking "you're not voting for that son of a bitch, Nobama, are you?" before proffering any "sign of peace."]

What do Obama and Osama have in common?

They both have friends who bombed the Pentagon.

NoBama's buddy Franklin Raines

The stupidity of the rank and file 'RAT party members is predictable. Move along. Nothing to see here.

**

Franklin Raines is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Fannie Mae, the government sponsored enterprise started in 1939 to offer mortgages to Americans wishing to become home owners.

After serving as budget director under President Bill Clinton, Mr. Raines served as CEO at Fannie Me from 2000 until 2004.

While Mr. Raines was CEO, Fannie Mae went deep into the practice of buying mortgages based on almost no or no money down given to borrowers who could not afford them.

During this time he received bonuses and salary over 90 million dollars.

In 2004 he was offered "early retirement" after the accounting practices used at Fannie during his tenure to secure top executive bonuses were shown to be fraudulent. Civil charges were filed against Raines and two other former executives which sought $110 million in penalties and $115 million in returned bonuses from the three accused.

On April 18, 2008, the government announced a settlement with Raines together with J. Timothy Howard, Fannie's former chief financial officer, and Leanne G. Spencer, Fannie's former controller.

The three executives agreed to pay fines totaling about $3 million,
which will be paid by Fannie's insurance policies. When pressed by the Bush administration to tighten down regulatio ns on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, members of congress,Republicans and Democrats alike, in positions to pass such regulations, did nothing. Raines was called "a targeted black man" by Democrats.

Today, Fannie Mae owns or has guaranteed over half of America's 12 trillion dollar mortgage market, and we are in the middle of a credit crunch and housing slump brought on in large part by government backed Fannie Mae going down this dangerous credit slope under Mr. Raines.

And where is Franklin Raines today?

He is a chief economic advisor to the presidential campaign of Senator Barack Obama.

CNN does actual voter fraud report

Probably too little too late. These Acorn freaks ought to be behind bars. McCain, your "campaign finance reform" came to squat, as everyone knew it would. Cheaters NEVER will play by the rules. Instead of your BS you should have been pushing for REQUIREMENTS for people to show actual PHOTO government ID at the polls. In California, you don't have to and there is enough fraud to turn elections. And how does Philadelphia turn out more than 100% of the ghetto vote?

Got Soros cigarette "walking around money?" Buy yourself an election.

A victory for the common man anywhere

...is a victory for the common man everywhere.

The metric weenies in the UK backed down. UK tradesmen can now list by the pounds and ounces without government trying to crawl up their backsides.

Here in the US, for a while government Nazis were entertaining forcing kilometers on us. They've stopped trying to pull that crap. There was one photo I wish I had taken, but could never get. On the way from SD county up to "the mouse" there used to be a lone sign that had mileage between cities. Next to it, some government bureaucrat had stuck a sign which also had the distances in kilometers. There were MORE than a few bullet holes on the kilometer sign. NONE on the mileage sign to its immediate left. We're nothing if not good marksmen. Proximity to Camp Pendleton may have also been a factor. Eventually the kilometer sign was taken down as it was becoming an "attractive nuisance."

Miles and feet were good enough for Neil and Buzz and Houston too.

I remember reading that the frogs tried to force time into base 10. Disasterous. The Good Lord also chose 12 apostles and not 10.

Pope at Film Premier

you can read the story here about the pope attending a film premier of a documentary about the life of JPII.

This picture strikes me as "odd."

#1 wouldn't you hate to be the women stuck sitting behind the pope? I bet they couldn't see ZIP!!! I bet the workmen who had to install that chair secretly bitched about doing that. "Geez, just this once...I suppose we should be thrilled he didn't ask us to carry him in like we were "native bearers."

#2 They're watching a movie and there isn't any popcorn, soda or Milk Duds in sight. What gives?

#3 Can't these people just "kick it" for once and show up in jeans, t-shirts and casual clothes like normal people? Why do they always have to be "on display" even when doing the simplest thing.

#4 how come the men and women are sitting separately as if they were in some Muslim hell-hole? I hardly think they need to be worried about some bishop putting his arm around some matron in the dark.

#5 And furthermore, it strikes me that the pope is taking a risk by being the only one sitting in a leather chair. I mean, come on...if you hear a "loud report" you know EXACTLY "who did it."

#6 why are these people watching a movie with the lights on

# 7 I bet there weren't any cartoons.

Phillies take the Pennant

Go Phillies!

If my Padres have a terrible team (which they did this year) I always root for the Phillies, the team of my youth. Still remember that '64 Jim Bunning perfect game. Still remember being taken to my first ball game in Shibe Park around '60.

This pennant victory is especially sweet coming against the Dodgers, whom I've always despised. I could just kill for a cheesesteak,(and not with that damn 'wiz either the children put on), a soft pretzel, a tasty-kake (Butterscotch krimpets, please) chased down by some birch beer. Is that scrapple I smell? Save me some. You wouldn't understand....

Abortion lovers of America

Here's your boy, Hussein. Remember that you believe in late term abortion too. DO something about that. Preferably before the November election. Please start with yourselves. And don't call yourself Catholic if you're planning to vote for this baby hating race baiting socialist arrogant SOB.

and you love infanticide? So does BO.

Start Saving blogs you like

-- don't ask -- just DO IT. One you like may be gone before you know it. NO, NOT this one. It's already too late for TWO of them now. Dammit. Dammit. Dammit. Did I say DAMMIT?

Oh, and just for good measure: DAMMIT.

This is what happens when you're sick for two weeks. Just when you start to feel better.....

And please, if you feel the urge to delete your whole freakin' blog: Just DON'T. Okay? Just DON'T DO IT. Go on hiatus. Go take a trip to the himmalayas. Go look up how to spell himmalayas. Catch a tuna, way out in Laguna. Go bake a cake. Go fly a kite. Go shoot clay pigeons. Turn a car over and set it on fire. Get in touch with your inner destructive forces by burning an Obama campaign sign. Or an ACORN office. Just don't delete your whole blog and screw up everyone's links. And especially don't lose all that great work.

Just DAMMIT.

Skipping Paul. John's the man

I've been ignoring the "Pauline year" and have gone right on to John. I'm currently reading Raymond Brown's Introduction to the Gospel of John. (Posthumous assist by Fr. Francis Moloney.)

I've usually found Paul more annoying than not - particularly his justification stuff. Borrrring.... if I wanted to listen to that all the time I'd hike down to some local Protestant dude. Truth be told I was glad he was shipwrecked all those times.

John's THE MAN. I'd love to know who wrote Hebrews too. Assuredly not that coat holder and tent maker.

Feeling Bettter

Finally, after almost two weeks. Still not 100%. Would I could wish the damn thing on Nobama.

Digihairshirt at Palin Rally

Lucky her. She's got EXCELLENT photos here.

And a grand account here. Her account includes a run in with a nobama supporter. Digi eviscerated her.

Semper Eadem - Gone

...ah, c'mon. WHY do people delete their entire blog without warning and break links?

Can a few of you priests who work with him, give him a head butt or something?

The new Cargo Cult Weirdos

I understand there are some Pacific Islanders who regard Prince Philip as a god. At least the prince in question is down to earth and would tell someone to get stuffed if they were being pompous. I'm just surprised B. Hussein Nobama ever cracked a smile. Leftist Europeans love Barry, because it weakens us, and they know they'll eat him for lunch. What is the fascination of the left for "being respected in Europe?" It's fine to admire the art/ music/architecture of Europe. But their socialistic politics and gun grabber ways? Never.

Sorry about the paucity of posts

For most of this week. I've been sicker than a dog. The worst of it is it could have been entirely avoided if the powers that be at work were rational. "Everyone must have a doctor's note for even a one day absence." So what do people do? Come in when they're sick, because no one goes to the doctor the first day they are sick. Just enough to ensure that the whole herd will eventually get it. But "TPTB" apparently can't calculate the true cost to the bottom line to doing that. "gee, is it better to have a few people out sick a few days - or guarantee the whole herd gets it and is miserable and bring productivity down overall?" I now know who will vote for Nobama. In my 34 years in the work force precisely TWO employers would make a point of sending people home if hey were ill.

Will the guy who SHOULD catch the flu get it? Probably not. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping he would. Where's that Pennsylvania Dutch Hex Sign when I need it?

Get your shots early this year, I feel like I've been at death's door most of the week.

And I hope anyone who has St. Therese of Lisieux as a patron had a fine feast day. I'd wanted to make a post on he first, and post a nice picture of a St. Therese statue I inherited from my grandmother. It's chalk, cheap, dinged up, and at least as old as I am. I love it because of what it is, and from whom I inherited it from. I'd post a pic, but I haven't the energy yet. Maybe on the weekend.

Happy B'day -

...to my friend Chris-
tine Y. this 30th Day of Sept. Got this in just under the wire. She's forgotten more about musical theatre than I ever knew. Funny how people meet. Back in the mid 90s the week my mother died, there was a showing of a segment of Crazy for You by the two principals of the Broadway cast - and I'd missed it due to all the goings on. A few weeks later I wrote to rec.arts.theatre.musicals to ask if anyone had taped that episode and Chris responded. She'd been a long time lurker. I must say my life has been enriched by knowing her.

She's also by happen stance a librarian. We're both rather fond of that grumpy saint, Jerome, whose feast day was today.
