I tend to go through phases. But my favorite shows which tend to garner more play- time than most at the moment are the following. You can click on the song title to get a 30 second sample of a song picked from a given show. They load fast. Then just backclick your browser to get back to this page.
1776 - Molasses to Rum
Cabaret - Willkommen
Chicago - All I care About
A Chorus Line - One
Gypsy - Some People (my favorite)
Follies - The Road You Didn't Take
A Little Night Music - You Must Meet My Wife
Crazy for You - Stiff Upper Lip
Company - The Ladies Who Lunch
West Side Story - Something's Coming
My Fair Lady - Just you Wait
Music Man - Ya Got Trouble
She Loves Me - Tonight at Eight
Most Happy Fella - (beginning) Big D
Take Me Along - Little Green Snake
Ragtime - Prologue
Merrily We Roll Along - It's a Hit!
Where's Charley?
Oklahoma! - Oklahoma
Damn Yankees - Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, Mo
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum - Love, I Hear
Finian's Rainbow - Something Sort of Grandish
Bye, Bye Birdie - Put on A Happy Face
In no particular order.
A pox on ALW (save JCS and Evita) ditto his froggy cousins (B&S)
And fie on whomever let Avenue Q hit the stage without throwing the author down a case of stairs. Same can be said for authors of Taboo, and a goodly number of other charlatans masquerading as musical theatre writers these last twenty some years. It's not all bad, for instance RAGTIME , and more recently CURTAINS (which I really enjoyed)... but God help most of them.

Wow! That list is kind of interesting!
It didn't always have the best cut of what I wanted, and unfortunately there's not any good free "safe" clips of Where's Charley? (the once in love with Amy rendition is pretty pathetic of what's available) but it's a bit of a sample. I go back and forth with what's a "favorite" but these tend to come up tops as far as Cast Recordings go. I've seen most of them live too. Maybe not the original, but usually an equity production, oftentimes on Bway or in London... but it's been a long time since I've been in london. Sometimes we're lucky out here and a show will open on the west coast - back "in the day" they'd do philly or New haven or Boston tryouts. Now it's in socal at the Ahmenson in Hell-A or in San Diego at the Old Globe or the La Jolla playhouse...so sometimes I get to see things before my new york friends do. Neener-neener.
I sort of enjoyed the British version of "Taboo", actually!
The OBC, however, is putrid - not so much because of the basic material as because of what the (apparently very heavily revised) Broadway production did to it. And the performances are awful. Particularly the accents, which are painful.
STEPHEN! Is that you up in Canada? Did you see the youtube thing that's up of Taboo? Kathy P. and I laughed our butts off. It was soooo incredibly......awful....the kind you run out to the lobby with your cell phone to call any friends within "2nd acting distance" to come see before the show closes that night.
We saw that really lame-o film re: following b'way shows in their development. Taboo was so featured. We laughed ourselves silly, we sat in the 3rd row at the Ken [the local artsy fartsy cinema) and were hysterical. Everyone behind us was sooo serious. It's a wonder they didn't throw us out.
