Apparently I'm Hotlips Houlihan. Karen, stop laughing.

Oh, and Esther, thanks -- I didn't have a clue! I can't claim to be a TV snob, having earned my stripes watching My Mother the Car [ask someone older than you...] and Hogan's Heroes, but that's one I never watched. [I also didn't see a single episode of Hill Street Blues or the Sopranos or Dallas for that matter. So there are some cultural references that I just go "huh?" on. Even with my current job I work evenings so miss a lot of prime time. Though I'm always good for an old Law and Order Rerun. Jerry Orbach is THE MAN as far as I'm concerned. Master of the sarcastic remark!

And Adrienne, Lucy is one of my all time favorite. Especially the Hollywood and European tour series. The "wine vat" being my mother's an my favorite episode.

WKRP was fun to watch as the "dumb blonde" receptionist (Loni Anderson-before Burt) was the only intelligent person in the office.

Yeah, Stephen--I'm hotlips too. Karen, cool, calm and always in control--nice. I'm not playing poker with you!

Tara, I *tend* to be pretty outward about how I'm feeling inside too. I was BESIDE myself once when shortly after I got out of college a group of friends WERE playing 5 card stud. I literally DID have an ace in the hole and I won a PILE of money on that hand. I almost wet myself "maintaining an even strain."

Never let them see you sweat, baby.

Aaaaarghhhh.... lots of settings have changed! I should be able to restore everything (I'm not a complete technophobe) but it's the hassle.

OS Windows XP. Firefox 2.0.0.11

None of you should complain. I rated "Commander Adama"! Ewwww. (Plus Cattlecar v1.0 wasn't even a sitcom.)

gemoftheocean said...

Fr. Erik, just be glad you weren't "Hotlips" you'd never live it down.

Yes, but Tara, I assume you're at least the correct gender to be Hotlips! I look about as unlike Loretta Swit as you could possibly imagine...

...and I have to concede that, physical resemblance aside, it's not an entirely inaccurate description of me.

Yes, I am the correct gender, and yes, I too have to admit also--she is exactly like me.

Karen: now I'm really not playing poker with you--LOL

Yeah Tara, but I'm at the age now where one misplaced sneeze could earn me a ...how shall I say this .... you you remember the song "Watch out where the Huskies go, don't you eat that yellow snow...." well, a pool of it at my feet.

One night we were playing Acey-Ducey and a friend (who was a fabulous bluffer, but who really needed to LOSE one for once) drew ace low, ace high -- "potted" the thing....and drew.....the third ace. I think he ended up losing about 14 bucks on that one hand!

One of my high school friends played at the race track (or technically had his 'rents play for him before he reached his majority) all the time. The ONLY 15 year old
I knew conversant with a racing form. When he was in his early 20s he and some buddies were part owner of a race horse. He was the most disciplined gambler I ever saw. The only one of us that went home with money consistently!

Oh, and Stephen.... this song fits you to a T ♫. (If you don't have real player ... too bad, you'll never know. :-D

I'm Shirley Partridge - Unflappable and entertaining. You breathe life into the deadest of parties without breaking a sweat.

Karen,

I do have RealPlayer... and that's slighly disturbing. What is it? I feel like I should recognise it, but I don't.

Oh - and I'll admit it here: I've seen episodes of "My Mother the Car".

I've also seen the episode of the vastly superior "Arrested Development" that's titled "My Mother the Car", which guest-starred Liza Minnelli as Lucille II:

("Arrested Development" was probably the best US sitcom since "Newsradio").

Stephen it's Cyril Ritchard (of the the Australian God and international star fame -- biggest role Captain Hook) -- It's hi rendition of "What a man" from "the Roar of the Greasepaint /the Smell of the Crowd" The UK amazon site had it, but the US one didn't or it wasn't coughing it up. :-D

I know that "....with a tan" part is stretching it for yoj ... but the rest is pretty apt!

And I'm impressed as all get out ou saw some of "My mother the Car" you must have seen it in some film/TV library, 'cuz It was one for one season when I was about 9 or so. Jerry Van Dyke. And his mother as "the reincarnated car." [Don't ask if you don't know, I'd need a lot of psychiatrist bills to dredge up the memory completely.]

Karen
[See what happens when you listen to ABBA? It rots your brain. BTW, I would give my left, 'er....never mind....to see that live. I'd love to go down to Lincoln Center and hypnotizes those ******** into giving me a copy of EVERYTHING they own. ]

gemoftheocean said...

Well, technically Anthony Newly with the bulk of the song, but that's Cyril's "Thank you" at the top.

I was Lucy. Venus. haha....I maybe can see that.

gemoftheocean said...

Thorn!!! Well, it may well be true, have you seen a picture of us TOGETHER? HUH? HUH? Rumor starts here......

I love how we have so many Lucy and Hot Lips Houlihan characters. It DOES kind of remind me how in high school, one teacher in particular was nicknamed HL. It wasn't a female teacher either. But someone virtually every girl (unless she was some sort of lesbian) had a crush on. I'll say no more.

Karen
