Music quiz

See if you can name the song the lyrics below come from and the title of the musical theatre show the song came from. My dear friend Stephen F. will get all these in a heartbeat, so he's not allowed to play in the combox on this one -- except to answer (if he sees it) the "Expert" question. :-D He's allowed to kibbitz though.

Put the # and song title and/or show to any you know in the combox. It should be a collaborative effort. Let me know if they were too easy or too hard.

Easy:
1. Christ you know I love you. Did you see I waved? I believe in you and God, so tell me that I'm saved.

2. At three I started Hebrew School, at ten I learned a trade.

3. And underneath her wimple she has curlers in her hair.

4. to see Thee more clearly, love Thee more dearly, follow Thee more nearly

Intermediate
5 Then it's off with the rum and the bibles. Take on the slaves, clink, clink.

6 Went to church, praying Santa Maria, send me guidance, send me guidance, pretty please .

7 Friends! The idle brain is the devil's playground.

8 When you go to get a word of advice from the fat little pastor he will tell you to love ever more .

Advanced:

9 ...but she was granted one more start, the convent of the Sacred Heart ...

10. - goodbye go and cry at another person's wake, if you're quick, for a kick, you can pick up a christening...

11. The devil's companions know not whom they serve - it might be instructive to observe

12. May I take this occasion to say: that the whole human race should go down on its knees, surely be grateful for mornings like these

Expert: (not a lyric, but a line from the libretto)
Where'd you play? The Vatican?

1. Jesus Christ Superstar, Simon Zealotes

2. Fiddler on the Roof, Tradition

3 The Sound of Music, How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?

4. Godspell, Day by Day

5. 1776, Molasses to Rum

6. A Chorus Line, Nothing

7. The Music Man, Trouble

8. Cabaret, Money (from the film, not 'Sitting Pretty' from the original stage score)

9. Chicago, We Both Reached For The Gun

10. Company, Getting Married Today

11. A Little Night Music, A Weekend in the Country

12. The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd, On a Wonderful Day Like Today

But the line of dialogue has me stumped.

No I didn't google. Yes I'm a geek.

Stevie, darling man, you were the only one NOT allowed to play. :-D But Big hug and a kiss for you because I knew you'd get them all. My fault, I should have put that sentence barring you right up front or put it in large yellow type. I should have known you'd be champing at the bit to start without reading the whole thing. Just for that I'll let you stew on the libretto line. Hint -- it's not from anything obscure and it's from one of my favorites, read my profile for my favorites.

You can drop me a line and help me make up[ a new quiz along similar lines. .... next time I'll make up a whole theatre geek on 'roids section just for you.

The rest of you let me know how many you got....and the "Expert" question is still open for grabs.

I was indeed chomping at the bit to start without reading the whole thing. Sorry!

I'm sure we can come up with some suitably evil quiz questions Mwahahaha.

yeah, but "suitably evil" should only apply to ratm! That's where you'd use all the "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" and "Rothschilds" quotes. :-D [And YES, that was a diabolic set of questions you sent me!] No, this time I actually want people to get some of them.

I was trying to flush out whomever else might know these things.

I knew the Fiddler on the Roof one, Sound of Music and Godspell (I was in that once...ahem) But the rest were out o'my league!

It's odd - nearly every time I've put a quiz up on RATM, there's been one relatively easy question gone unanswered, or answered only incompletely.

Oy, do you have an elementary--one that is way below easy--for me? Sheesh--I just like to listen, but never learn the titles.

Wilco, Tara.

Hey, Stephen if you see this one....the line was from Gypsy. I'm pretty sure it's "Mazeppa" who says it after she gets a look at June and her Hollywood Blondes. :-D Try not to kick yourself too hard. [I know, I know...out of context! ]

I knew about 5 (the first three and Music Man and Cabaret). You should ban Stephen from commenting, he puts us all to shame ;-)
