Hey, Manny, Moe, Jack, Clyde and Cornelius ... you .... you dummies over at the US Conference of Catholic Bishops: Listen up.
If you REALLY want to do the laity a favor by moving around Ascension Thursday to the following Sunday, go one better and move it to the Monday following the Sunday so we can take a three day weekend out of it. Didn't you notice the cool 3 day holidays congress gave us back in the 60s? I mean, what the hell. Jesus, tell them to straighten up and fly right.
Get with the program guys.

Interesting that the article doesn't addess Lincoln's Birthday, which we celebrated as a holiday until the creation of the 3-day holiday schedule.
As for the Church Holy Days, I also miss the "old" names of the Church Seasons (Sundays of Epiphaany, Sundays of Pentecost, etc.) God bless JP-II, but I'll lambast him when I get upstairs for userping the Triduum & the 2nd Sunday of the Octave of Easter!
Look up Washington's Birthday and or Lincoln's Birthday on Wikipedia. Interesting article. The "so-called" president's day is still officially Washington's B'day. Lincoln's B'day apparently was never a federal holiday officially. Dang southerners. BTW, I call my computer "Hank" on occasion! [Is there a St. Hank?)
Hank is one of the variations on Henry, and there are a number of Saint Henry's ("Henry the 8th I am I am...")
Yeah!
Here in Australia Ascension Thursday hasn't been a Holy Day for 25 years. The only two Holy Days that are not on Sunday's now are Christmas and The Assumption.
We get both here in Ill - Washington's AND Lincoln's.
WOOOOOOO! Score!
Yeah, well, if you're counting COURT holidays (as I do), here in CA we get Cesar Chavez Day!
It's in the USCCB's charter to screw with the laity. Just doing their jobs.
BTW, the word verification on this should be censored...it's "nekkd."
